Ketchup, part 2

If you read my previous post, you know I’m playing ketchup [catch up] because I’ve been absent for a few weeks, mostly just life getting in the way of blogging. But real life comes first, right? Speaking of real life, here’s something I couldn’t wait to share with you . . . As you may remember, granddaughter Nova is our step-granddaughter. We make absolutely no distinction between the biological kids/grandkids or the ones from previous marriages or relationships that come into our lives. Each and every one of them are ours. I just wanted to clarify for this story. Nova’s dad and stepmom live in Newton, which is about a 40-45 minute drive east of here, depending on which road you take, the traffic, and any road construction. (Oiy, road construction. πŸ™„) Every other week, Elissa and her ex meet about halfway to “exchange” (for lack of a better word) Nova for the next week. So, one week she’s here with John and Elissa, and the next over there with her dad and stepmom. When she’s in Newton, you can tell little brother Aero misses her. He’s not old enough yet to understand where sissy has gone for so many

Ketchup, part 1

It’s time to play ketchup [catch up]. Sorry for my absence the past few weeks. Sometimes life hits you with lots of stuff going on and no time to do anything else but handle what’s in the moment, right? Here goes . . .  August is definitely not  my favorite month of the year. For one thing, it’s extremely hot. Kansas is normally in the upper 90s to near 110s every year at this time. Yeah, yeah, some say it’s like that from June through September, but for as long as I’ve lived, August is the worst for extreme heat here. We’ve had several days that were “dangerous heat warning” days. “Real feel” temperatures sometimes topped out in the lower 110s. All those flooding rains we had back in May and June – gone. And now . . . nada zip zilch moisture. Bleah. Here is this past Tuesday’s temperature and heat index . . . Egads. Not to mention that extreme heat really plays a number on folks (like me and Jerry) who have to contend with chronic pain medical conditions like arthritis, fibromayalgia, migraines, etc. High heat makes everything worse. Chronic pain is awful to live with in the

Wild ball of wax

“The reports of my disappearance have been greatly exaggerated…” Well, Mark Twain didn’t say it like that, but you get the idea. Please excuse my tardiness in getting back here. The past several days since my previous post have been either – 1. extremely busy, 2. full of migraines and body ills, or 3. filled with stress and worry. Yep, the whole ball of wax has run wild here lately. I probably should have warned you ahead of time, my blog friends, that stuff happens in my life constantly, causing me to be unexpectedly absent. Just when I think it’s safe to sit down and UNthink – B A M ! – there it is. Meh, I’m used to it. Life can’t be all hunky-dory all the time, right? And, yeah, I’m that person who tends to keep most of it… okay, a lot of it… to myself. I remain silent. But not alone. Because…. God. God is the only certainty. I have to handle a few more things over the next couple days or so. When I get back, I’ll update you on everything. And I’ll share a lovely little gift that came in the mail from a blog
