Can we just pick a season and stick with it till it’s over? This back and forth drives me nuts!
For days we’ve had 50s and 60s. Right before suppertime yesterday, a huge dirt cloud came roaring in on 50-60mph winds. Then it changed to driving rain and temperatures tumbled. Finally, blizzard-like snow came blowing in, but with the winds the way they were – and still are – it all blew east of us so we didn’t get but a trace, thank goodness.
Since our apartment is on the north side of the building, and my bed sits right at the window, I could hear the wind slamming against the walls and window all night. And that’s hearing it even over the fan I keep on to be able to sleep (mostly to muffle building noises, but also because I live with permanent non-stop hot flashes that are never going to end arg! lol). No wonder the pioneer women went bat crazy from having to listen to the Kansas wind (yes, there are numerous stories of that happening).
And so today, our temps are in the low 20s. Right now at mid-afternoon, it’s cloudy, 24° with a “feels like” of 10°, and the wind is down to NNW at 21mph. And the sun is starting to shine through the clouds.
Tomorrow we get back into the 50s. Ha!
I took son John to do his grocery shopping yesterday… well, I should say he took us in his Suburban. Of course, he drove using his left foot since it’s his right knee that’s messed up. Yeah, yeah, I know… but he drove the same as if he was using his right foot and he’s been at it for over a week (the pedals are more centered in his Suburban). There was no making him stay home, or even stay in the car, because he likes to pick out his own groceries. Stubborn man. Just like his mama.
I pushed the shopping cart and he was on his crutches. I could tell 10 minutes in on the shopping that he was shaking with pain. But he would not give up… we got it done in about 45 minutes.
He and I neither one like having to do any shopping. The main reason being people. They will stand and yack in the middle of the aisle while others around them are trying to get through to the shelves they’re blocking. Or they will leave their cart in the center of the aisle and walk several feet away looking for something on the shelves. Or – the part that really angers me – they will not move for a disabled person! My son was nearly tripped up a number of times because someone wouldn’t move so we could get by. The times Jerry has shopped with me, he has to use his wheelchair, or he uses the electric cart the store has, and I’ll be darned if it doesn’t seem people block him on purpose. I kid you not. I’ve had to raise my voice numerous times asking folks to move over. One time, a big burly guy saw we were stuck waiting and loudly said, “Hey! People! Move your *bleep* for the gentleman in the wheelchair.” You’d think Moses had parted the sea because they all jumped and moved.
I declare, people have forgotten manners and kindness the past two years.
Just a photo I took at sunset this past Thursday.
A couple folks who don’t comment (for privacy reasons) but do send an email have asked for some of my recipes with photos since we basically only do low/no salt, low/no sugar, meat and dairy replacement/borderline vegan types of meals. I was thinking that maybe I should make a separate page for those. Or maybe a page for each recipe would be better. And put a widget in the sidebar for the list of recipes. What do you think? I mean, I could link from the recipe list to the posts with the recipes, but then you have to read through the posts to find them. I don’t mind doing what is easiest for you.
Today I’m feeling so much better! PTL! I only have a tiny bit of prickly pain on a very few of the rash spots, but those are quickly going away. When the rash is gone, the pain is supposed to be gone. I still don’t want to wear a b-r-a because the skin is easily irritated right now (figures the rash would be exactly where part of it goes lol). I’ve been wearing a hoodie zipped up over my t-shirts when I’ve had to get out (plus my coat if it’s cold)… really glad it’s winter for this, because summer would’ve been too hot for the hoodie and very uncomfortable without a bra in public. Ha! I reckon I have several more days to go before it’s all over. I’m just thankful the end is in sight. Thank you for all the prayers while I’ve been going through this!
Please continue to keep my son John in prayer about his knee. He has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on the 25th. That’s still ten days off… and no pain meds after today… unless he goes to same day care or the ER to see if they will extend the prescriptions until he can get to that appointment. Thank you!
Blessings to all of you!
